Description
This majestic setting of the timeless hymn Amazing Grace begins in G major with a delicate string intro quoting the chorus of Grace Greater Than All Our Sin. The voices enter and crescendo while introducing Amazing Grace. This is followed by the voices singing the first stanza in unison. We then modulate to E-flat major for the second stanza in which the melody begins in the lower voices and then is passed upward ending up in the top voice. This is followed by a short interlude after which the voices return in unison for the third stanza, during which they later split into four parts. After a brief modulation to E major the voices enter for the fourth stanza. This is followed by a modulation to F major for the first phrase of the final stanza which then modulates up to G major and crescendos to a grand and majestic ending climax.
While the arrangement is written for TTBB, it will also work for SATB voicing using the same printed music.
